Your First Appointment
What to expect at your appointment with the physician:
- The initial New Patient appointment with the physician is approximately one hour.
- A thorough medical and headache history evaluation will be performed.
- Past medical treatments will be reviewed.
- Previous medical records will be reviewed.
- Clear explanations about your diagnosis will be provided.
- A treatment plans will be individually tailored to the needs of each patient.
- Recommendation may be made for medications and non-drug therapies to:
- Treat headache attacks.
- Treat other symptoms like nausea and vomiting.
- Prevent headaches to decrease the frequency, severity and duration of attacks.
- Explanations of headache medications, side effects and possible interactions with your other medications will be provided.
- Changes in your current medications may be recommended.
- Lifestyle changes may be suggested such as:
- Improving sleep
- Stress management
- Diet changes
- Other interventions may also be recommended:
- Physical therapy
- Exercise programs
- Mindfulness therapy
- Biofeedback
- Nutrition counseling
- Recommendation may be made for medications and non-drug therapies to:
- Follow-up appointments may be necessary to monitor your progress and address new or evolving issues.
- Patients participate in the evaluation process by maintaining a daily headache calendar. This record is extremely important to evaluate your progress with your headache care
